Go board tangent

I’m working on a custom Go board and am drawing the grid on a piece of wood.  I’m working with some heavier mediums like ebony graphite and sharpie and a thought occurred to me.  Wouldn’t it be awesome to do drawings on wood or some material and then sand parts of it off as an act of erasure?  Pondering this..
