I thought I would show a recently finished commission, almost from start to finish. There were many sketches, plein air studies and other preparations that went into this but here are some of the better ones. The final painting measures 5′ x 3′, has split-complimentary eye candy all over, uses a build up of impressionistic strokes, and is finished of with Kinkadian light/style. This commission taught me a lot about different styles of painting and how to use glazing, scumbling, and dry brushing interchangeably.
Many of these studies are available for purchase in my Shop.
The process of doing studies taught me a lot about observation. When working on a commission you have to think about what the client is seeing in addition to what you are seeing. It is definitely a collaboration. I used a variety of media for the studies including Oil, Acrylic, Watercolor and Pen.
